Enterprise Nodes

A node is a virtual server for use exclusively by an individual client. It is functionally equivalent to a separate physical computer, and is entirely dedicated to an individual client's needs with the privacy of a separate physical computer. Each node can run its own full-fledged operating system and can be independently rebooted. We believe in the ideology that our clients should understand all the moving pieces that power their nodes. Most providers oversell their capacity and bandwidth. We avoid resource contention by deliberately refusing to oversell our Pods (physical hosts), which results in delivering the highest performance and stability to our clients.

Typical Usage

Our nodes are perfect for high-density web servers, complex database systems, game servers, private development servers, off-site virtual desktops, disaster recovery systems, and anything else that can be imagined. Clients have the ability to cross connect their nodes through the private network and create a secure computing environment without breaking the bank. Clients may also utilize the vast computational power to analyze and and project trends in financial systems, emerging markets, social media, and even cat blogging. The possibilities are endless!

Friendly Support

Our engineering team is dedicated to providing superior customer support. Let our amazing, friendly engineers put the fun back in systems administration!

  • Unlimited Tickets: Need clarification or help on a specific feature? Worried your node isn't 100% optimized? We're here to help!
  • Friendly Engineers: Our engineers are trained from the beginning to be extra personable, while maintaining +10 UNIX administration.
  • Migration Assistance: We will help you move the data from your previous host to your node(s) at no cost (host requires FTP or SSH access).
  • Server Administration Tickets: Installation and configuration of 3rd party applications, and operating system / security updates. Do you want to run a steam powered game server? Perhaps you're looking to run a database cluster. We'll recommend the best software for the job and get it installed for you. Must contact us before ordering for availability.

  • Exceptional Hardware

We utilize the best enterprise hardware for our Pods.

    • SLC SATA III Solid State Drives: Our SSDs provide reliable and secure enterprise-class storage ideal for high-performance and data-intensive applications. SATA III NAND Flash SSD drives leverage the SATA 6.0Gb/s interface, providing stellar performance and low latency. Built with high-endurance SLC NAND and optimized NAND management algorithms, our SSDs achieve sequential read speeds of up to 360 MB/s and up to 45,000 random write IOPS -- the highest of any SATA-based SSD on the market. Our SSD drives' high-performance speed and reliability are best suited for game, database, streaming media, and mission-critical nodes.

    • SATA III Hard Disk Drives: SATA III hard drives include a 6.0Gb/s interface with 64MB of cache. SATA III drives are best suited for web, mail, and high-capacity storage nodes.

    • Intel Xeon E3 1200 (Sandy Bridge) Series: the newest Intel series of high performance processors and the enterprise equivalent of an Intel i7 processor. Includes 8MB L3 CPU Cache, AES support, New Intel Advance Vector Extensions (256 bit), and Intel Turbo Boost 2.0.

    • DDR3 1333 ECC RAM: DDR3 1333 delivers incredible performance and platform compatibility with up to 10.6Gb/s per channel memory bandwidth for the ultimate performance. Includes ECC (error correcting codes) RAM parity to protect applications and data.

    Unparalleled Network

The best hardware needs the best network to thrive and to maximize productivity. Therefore, we've housed our Pods in SoftLayer's world class datacenter. SoftLayer's geographically diverse datacenters and PoPs boasts multiple 40 Gbps peering and transit agreements with GLBX, Internap, Level3, NTT, Quest, TeliaSonera, Comcast, Cox, Equinix, Telefonica, and Timewarner, so you can be sure your nodes have fast, dependable uplinks to the internet.

We offer unlimited inbound and private network bandwidth. Every client receives an SSL VPN account to securely access their nodes through an out-of-band private network. Clients also receive free cross-connects between nodes through the private network.

Bandwidth pooling gives you the power to optimize your bandwidth usage by "pooling" all of the bandwidth together. Bandwidth overages for nodes are summed up as a whole and overages are calculated only if the total bandwidth of all nodes exceeds the total allocated bandwidth for all nodes under a client account. Bandwidth pooling is available to clients with two or more active nodes.

    Public and Private Computing Nodes

Private Computing Nodes give clients the performance, security and scalability of SSD Nodes in an isolated computing environment. Private Nodes are only given access to our private network and our client VPN services, and have the ability to extend your public nodes and corporate datacenter environments. Combine connectivity methods to match your needs.

    Operating Systems

The key to working with any project is discovering which operating system will achieve your goals. The current operating systems we support in provisioning are CentOS, Debian, FreeBSD and Ubuntu.

    CentOS

CentOS CentOS is a free, community-supported version of the commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system. CentOS is known for its stability and scalability, a large percentage of the world's supercomputers are running a derivative of RedHat. CentOS utilizes the Yum binary-based package management system.

    Debian

Debian Debian is a powerful operating system known for its relatively strict adherence to the UNIX and free software philosophies. Debian is known for its abundance of options, and was one of the first Linux distributions to compose itself from packages. It utilizes the APT binary-based package management system.

    FreeBSD

FreeBSD FreeBSD is an incredibly versatile operating system that separates the base system from userland. The kernel and software are compiled from scratch to provide flexibility within your environment. It utilizes the Ports Tree source-based package system. Our FreeBSD images already have the XENHVM kernel compiled and running at boot.

    Ubuntu

Ubuntu Ubuntu is a powerful, user-friendly operating system built around a 6-month release cycle. Originally forked from Debian, Ubuntu maintains a relatively strict adherence to the UNIX and free software philosophies. It utilizes the Aptitude binary-based package management system.

Licensed operating systems are supported, but not offered by our provisioning system. If you already own a licensed operating system (Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Enterprise Linux, etc.) and want to use it on our nodes, contact sales for more information.
