I'm Matt Connor, founder and CEO of SSD Nodes — the VPS hosting provider I've run for 15 years. These guides are for the people who keep a server running: sysadmins, developers and self-hosters.
A guide here is a working procedure, not an overview. It gives you the commands in the order you run them, tells you what a correct result looks like, and names the places where the setup usually breaks. Where a step can fail, the guide documents the failure and the fix.
Everything is written to be run on an ordinary Linux VPS. You do not need SSD Nodes to follow along, and no guide assumes a special environment.
Two habits will save you more than any guide: never paste a command — from here or anywhere else — without understanding what it does to your system, and keep backups of anything you cannot rebuild. Environments differ, upstream projects change, and the only server you can safely experiment on is one you can afford to lose.
